Our Story
It all started in 2001 at a friend’s wedding, because really, where else do great ideas begin? Sparked by a shared passion, we launched our company in Edmonton with a simple mission: to craft homes with care, integrity, and heart.
That passion naturally led us toward sustainable, energy-efficient building. Over the years, we’ve been proud to receive environmental and design awards, but what matters most is the impact on the people who live in the homes we build. The Belgravia Green project, one of Canada’s first Net Zero energy homes, was a turning point. It confirmed our (admittedly nerdy) love for building smarter and proved that sustainable design can still have serious style.
Opening our off-grid office felt like a milestone and a reunion rolled into one. It was a living example of our values, made even more meaningful by the number of past clients who showed up to celebrate with us.
As our projects grew, so did our team. We brought everything under one roof. We expanded our carpentry crew and welcomed an in-house design team. With a tight-knit group of 25 who work hard, laugh often, and aren’t afraid to noodle ideas until they’re just right, we’ve created a place where collaboration thrives.
Having everyone in house means we can stay hands on through every phase of a project. From the first sketch to the final high five, we’re more than just builders. We’re a team that cares deeply about what we create and the people we create it for. Every detail matters because we’re not just building homes. We’re building legacies.
Our Team
Renée Beaulieu
Interior Designer
Renée has a passion for design and construction, but most of all people. She appreciates the personal relationship she builds with each of our clients, and is honoured to be a part of their new home journey. Fluent in French and English, Renée graduated with a Bilingual Bachelor of Commerce Degree from the UofA. She also made the Dean’s List and received two scholarships when completing the Architectural Technology Diploma at NAIT. In her spare time she loves reading, music, cooking, painting and hanging out with friends.
Will Berger
Site Supervisor
A trained red seal carpenter, Will Berger is Site Supervisor and Warranty Coordinator for Effect. With over 2 decades of experience in construction, Will’s experience in the field and unparalleled people skills allow him to effectively problem-solve and maintain safe and efficient sites. His focus is to ensure that quality and efficiency are maintained throughout the build and commissioning of each home. When Will isn’t managing one of our sites, you can probably find him at home with his family cooking something delicious on his Traeger grill.
Dave Brettelle
Project Manager
As a Project Manager for Effect, Dave is responsible for making projects run seamlessly and effectively. As one of the founding members of Effect with over 17 years of experience as a Red Seal carpenter in construction, Dave works to see clients and contractors and collaborate to create exceptional homes that everyone can be incredibly proud of. When he’s not in the office working on the latest project, he can be found biking all over the province.
Kurtis Brown
Lead Carpenter
Kurtis is a Lead Carpenter with Effect. He can be found on-site guiding his crew to build and renovate our clients custom projects. In addition to being a skilled carpenter and math whiz, Kurtis is a wealth of random knowledge and interesting facts. Kurtis is curious by nature and is the epitome of a team player. Outside of the job site, Kurtis is a passionate cook, and enjoys camping and all of the outdoor activities that come with it.
Joey Eddleston
Apprentice Carpenter
Growing up on a cattle ranch, Joey is no stranger to hard work. He enjoys working on site with his team, and learning carpentry skills to apply to his apprenticeship. In addition to his role at Effect, Joey plays high level football for the Edmonton Wildcats. Always sporting a smile, Joey contributes to the positive team atmosphere both on and off the jobsite.
Dominic Emmelkamp
Production Manager
As a Red Seal carpenter with over 15 years of experience in custom residential construction, Dominic oversees the efforts of Effect’s production department. He helps train and support our talented construction crew, as well as ensures our projects are built to the standard Effect is known for. With an intense interest in energy efficient and alternative building structures, Dominic is continually learning and applying new skills to his role. Outside of work and working towards his Blue Seal in carpentry, Dominic enjoys camping, travelling, and trying any new local beer he can find.
Adam Fee
Apprentice Carpenter
Growing up in a small town, Adam learned the value of hard work and teamwork. He enjoys the satisfaction of building personalized homes that are constructed with energy efficiency as a priority. Adam is currently taking his apprenticeship training at NAIT and enjoys incorporating theory into his day to day construction activities.
Fu Hong
Apprentice Carpenter
Fu loves his role of Apprentice Carpenter because of the satisfaction he gets from creating something tangible. He graduated with a Bachelor of Education from the UofA and decided to pursue a career in residential construction. Fu is an excellent communicator and enjoys coaching new team members. Fu’s positive attitude and enthusiasm are infectious!
Patricia Egea Leal
Architectural Designer
As Architectural Designer for Effect, Patri works to transform concepts and ideas into fully realized architectural drawings that are ready for construction. Her passion for home building and unparalleled attention to detail ensures every project is carefully planned from architectural design to technical components and budget specifications. Born and raised in Spain, Patri earned a Master’s in Architecture from the Polytechnic University of Valencia. Since coming to Canada she has developed a love for camping, hiking and exploring the outdoors. On a summer day, you can find her soaking up the sun on a walk or at a local patio.
Manisha Neeladoo
Bookkeeper
Manisha has a warm, welcoming personality. Our guests are greeted by her smiling face and cheerful voice. In addition to her positive aura, she is a top performer. Manisha graduated among the top 5% with a Bachelor Degree in Business (Majoring in Accounting) at Edith Cowan University (ECU) in Australia and made it on the Dean’s List School of Business and Law. She appreciates the emphasis on company values that make Effect stronger as a team and deliver excellent outcomes for our clients. She is reliable, proactive, and loves problem solving. Coming from a multicultural island, Manisha appreciates cultural diversity and the values that bring people together. When not at work, Manisha enjoys travelling and spending time with family.
Reuben Noot
Lead Carpenter
Reuben Noot is a Lead Carpenter at Effect and with the added bonus of an Architectural Technology diploma from NAIT. Residential construction and design have always been his focus. He loves working with his team to tackle challenging projects and collaborate on creative solutions. Off the job site, Reuben enjoys riding bikes in the mountains of his hometown of Abbotsford BC.
Cade Scheck
Carpenter's Helper
Cade graduated from the Architectural Technology Program at NAIT and joined Effect because of his love for carpentry. His drafting knowledge is an added bonus on the job site. Cade enjoys working with his hands and being active. His role on the team allows him to combine these physical aspects with his ability to find creative solutions to problems. In his spare time, Cade enjoys golfing, skiing, spikeball, playing guitar and visiting with friends.
Josh Spence
Red Seal Carpenter
Josh is an experienced carpenter for Effect. He earned his Red Seal Carpenter designation in 2015 and enjoys working with a cohesive team to take on challenging projects. He enjoys spending time with his family and friends.
Scott Wilson
Design and Sales Manager
Scott is the Design and Sales Manager at Effect. He is an Architectural Technologist and has been designing homes in Edmonton for 14 years. His passion for custom homes is evident from the first meetings with clients. Scott also has experience in many aspects of construction, including framing, commercial design, and project management. Most of Scott’s other interests revolve around design too; he spends his free time creating camper vans, treehouses, and occasionally motorized furniture.
Les Wold
General Manager
As the General Manager for Effect, Les is inspired to make a difference in communities and the environment, and his satisfaction comes from making home owners’ dreams a reality. As one of the founding members of Effect Home Builders, Les is dedicated to helping clients understand the building process and leaving a lasting, positive impact on their lives. Valedictorian of his graduating high school class, Les went on to receive a Bachelor of Commerce Degree with Distinction from the University of Alberta and has received several industry related awards for his work. He looks forward to continuous improvement across the building industry as a whole.
